Highest storm surge for 60 years to hit the East Coast of Britain tonight

Formby has been  battered by gales and high seas today causing damage to our dune system and the boardwalk at Lifeboat Road, however, we are lucky in comparison to the East coast of England where a storm surge of  up to 2 meters is expected tonight. Back in 1953 the East Coast was devastated by the worst coastal flooding to hit the UK and the conditions are similar today. A combination of a deep low pressure system and spring tides have combined to create the potentially catastrophic conditions for sea floods.
